About Me

I am a 1981 graduate of Grove City College. In 1980, since Grove City did not have its own study abroad program, I matriculated at IUP with the help of Juan Cruz Mendizabal. Through the relative magic of Facebook, I have recently found the family I lived with in Valladolid, as well as my Japanese roommate! I was good friends with John Jankowski whom I have yet to contact but found him via Google on this site and on LinkedIn! I hitchhiked from Grove City to IUP the year after for a weekend of partying! I cannot believe it has been 32 years. My older daughter is now almost my age when I studied in Valladolid! Next to my SECOND marriage and the birth of my two daughters, my 5 months as a student in Spain are an absolute HIGHLIGHT of my life!

About Me

After graduation from IUP, I attended Penn State where I also taught as a grad assistant in the Spanish Dept.  while I worked on a Masters and Phd.  I taught at Juniata College, Drew University and Rutgers, but  changed careers and became a banker, starting out in the LatinAmerican division of Chemical Bank.  Fast forward 30 years, I now work in Risk Management at JPMorgan,.  Over the years, I've gotten to Spain often, most recently in 2004 and 2007, when my husband and I rented casas rurales in Villafuerte de Esgueva and Zaratan.  The house where I lived in Valladolid in 1967 on the Calle Angustias has been replaced by a new building that houses the Colegio de Abogados.  The city is so changed, with new neighborhoods on the other side of the river that were campo abierto back in the day. Padova isn't there, but the Plaza Mayor and La Antigua bring back fond memories of a life changing experience.

About Me

I was in Valladolid in 1968 and currently live and teach in Pittsburgh.  I attended both reunion trips (2006 and 2009) and plan to go with the next one.  Traveling with the group was fun and memorable.

About Me

I was with the 1982 group.  Liked it so much I went back with the 1983 group. Told my parents I'd be home by February 1983.  Didn't get back home until July 1983. Loved every minute of it. Taught English and slept on a lot of couches. I met Walter Jordan in a bar in February 1983.  He was the American on the Valladolid basketball team. He offered me a room rent free in his club-owned flat in exchange for my helping him with his Spanish. A wonderful 2 months. I hated to see the basketball season come to an end. I taught 9 years in a small public school in Northern Pennsylvania, Port Allegany. I have been here at Malvern Prep outside Philadelphia for 17 years now.

About Me

Attended the Universidad de Valladolid with IUP in 1980 with the mentoring of our wonderful director, Dr. Juan Cruz Mendizabal. I didn't want to leave so I later studied that summer at the Universidad de Menendez Pelayo in Santander.  After graduation, my education in Spain ultimately led to my relocation to South Florida where I managed sales in Latin America and the Caribbean for a British international freight forwarding company.  I am the proud father of three wonderful children and manage my own law practice for the past 22 years after graduating from the University of Miami School of Law. I serve many Latin and international clients as I remain forever grateful to the blessings afforded me through the IUP Valladolid Program. Tengo tantos recuerdos buenos que me sirven para siempre, como escribo ahora, con una gran sonrisa aficionada de todo!
