I was a member of the 1972 group, the tenth group to go to Valladolid. I not only fell in love with the city and it's people, but also a medical student who I married. We have two sons who are now both actors in LA. We spent 36 wonderful years together. Unfortunately he succumbed to leukemia last November. Until then we typically visited Spain twice a year.
The people I went to Valladolid with are still some of my very best friends. From IUP I went on to get an MA in Hispanic Literatures and Cultures at the University of Iowa and then a PhD in the same area at the University of Minnesota. I have been the Director of Language Instruction in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies for the past 20 years. In that position I teach undergraduates language, literature and culture. I teach pedagogy to the graduate Teaching Assistants. I also direct a College in the Schools program where we prepare 40 high school instructors to teach Intermediate College Spanish in 35 high schools around the Twin Cities metro area.
